Sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants and CAF
(Charities Aid Foundation), the competition is designed to
reward best practice in online accounting and to raise the
standard of web-based annual reports.
The awards encourage more charities to provide their financial
information online and recognise harities committed to using the
web to achieve greater financial transparency. In publishing
financial information online charities are better placed to
communicate directly and effectively with beneficiaries, donors
and stakeholders.
Robin Fieth, Director of Finance at the Institute and one of the
judges on the panel, said: "The Charities' Online
Awards are an invaluable opportunity to recognise the importance
of providing financial information online and to reward those
charities which use the internet to create effective and direct
communication between organisation and audience. We are inviting
charities to enter the Awards so that they can receive the
recognition they deserve."
Online accounts support transparency of charities
One of the winning charities last year was Winchester Hospital
Radio. Nigel Dallard, Treasurer, commented on the importance of
the Awards: "Winning this award has given us the
opportunity to showcase our online reporting and the work of the
charity. The Charity Commission's website now provides a
link to our accounts which are featured as a model set.
"We see publishing our reports online as the most effective
way of making our accounts visible and available to the public,
and took the opportunity to place them online in 2000 when our
website was introduced. Online reporting enables our supporters
to see the importance of their funding and the difference this
makes."
The size of the charity doesn't matter because entries fall
into one of four different income categories: above £2 million,
between £500,000 - £2 million, between £100,000 - £500,000 and
below £100,000. The Awards will be presented in December.
The competition is free and entry takes only five minutes.
Entries close on July 17 so to find out more or to enter visit
